e-photos

We recently got our engagement photos back from our absolutely amazing photographer, Stacy Young. And what can I say, I am head over heels amazed by them. Oh, she did such an incredible job, I can’t even imagine how fabulous the ones from our wedding day will turn out! I had to share these with you! If you ever need a photographer in the Salt Lake area, I completely recommend her, she is a total doll to work with. She has such an amazing talent for posing, angles + engaging the subjects.

Kate and Sawyer: Engagement Session

I had the pleasure of photographing Kate and Sawyer on a beautiful fall day. Blue skies, bright colored leaves, and a warm light from the sun made this an awesome shoot, not to mention Kate and Sawyer are pretty phenomenal themselves.

These two are the sweetest! They have dated for 5 years and got engaged on Christmas day last year. How memorable & special is that? (:

I love how they love each other. It is so apparent in how they talk to one another and treat each other. Their love runs deep and you can see it in their faces.

Can’t wait for their wedding in April!

checking in.

Sorry to disappoint, in lieu of an actual blog post – I will leave you with a photo of my friend Kristyn’s crazy adorable baby boy/Richard Simmons impersonator. America, watch out for this little kickboxer to be coming to your television screens some day in the near future.

I am still around, I promise. I am not taking a sabbatical, a hiatus, a vacation (although it would be very nice…). I am still here, mending the inner workings of this site – and pondering the ideas + meanings of what it has been, and what it will become. I am currently insanely (wait, haven’t I always been?) busy with work, wedding planning, photo editing, enjoying the summer+ the company of dear friends, …………. and attempting to complete the 25 blog post drafts + 37 ideas that are currently on the backburner. I promise, I will be back soon.

Grace + Peace

july’s whirlwind

Wow. How on earth has July passed us by already?! Its seriously the fourth of August? When + how did that happen? It feels like it should still be the beginning of June. But alas, the month of July has strolled on by leaving a whirlwind of debris in its path.My birthday has came + past, I don’t feel any older… As I am sure you all have noticed, I am long overdue on a blog update! So… lets get rolling… shall we?

Alright: July – where do I even start? My sweet fiance became a first time car owner! Take a look at this beauty! The lavish {utes} red 2010 Toyota Corolla S, became property of this dear man… trust me, ladies, I tried to get him to buy a volvo to no avail…

We have placed the deposit down on our wedding venue + have nailed down the key aspects of the Wedding; including – The photographer, The pastor, + The food. Yay! Now if only we could narrow down all of the centerpiece ideas + decide on ONE… 262 days!!!!!! :D

For the 4th 3rd, Sawyer + I joined my parents up in Park City to watch the fireworks. {if you haven’t caught on… Utah is ridiculous about holidays if they land on a Sunday, and will celebrate them on Saturday/and or Monday}. It was so insanely cold up the canyon that we had to buy blankets because with the gusty winds it was in the low 60’s buy 9pm. Here are some shots from the festivities.

The following weekend, we were able to meet up with some fellow photog friends to do a shoot downtown of some urban nightlife. My camera didn’t work with their lighting set up, so aside from being the “gel changer” assistant, I spent a lot of time in front of the camera… We met a man who ran a business off of his bike called “ice-pop cycles” and had the yummiest coconut ice-pop’s! For only a dollar. A must buy if you ever run into him. Here are some shots from that evening.

We went to see Inception too! Three word. Oh My Wow. Mind blown. Insanely good movie. You all NEED to see it as soon as you get a chance! P.S. Leo is sooo not aging gracefully… sorry buddy, you are just not a hollywood hottie anymore… boo.

Over my birthday weekend, yay 23! {And no, I really don’t feel older…} Soy-man, my parents + I hoped in the car + took a mini road trip up to Idaho Falls, for the Blue Angels airshow. It had been far too many years since I have seen one of their shows… exhibits… what-not. Coming from a person who has not burned in years. Years I tell you… I was crispy upon return home… amazing what high elevation + standing on blacktop all day will do to us pale skins. No fun. Sawyer had never been to an airshow before so it was fun to watch his exuberance + excitement of being able to touch a WWII era plane + watching them fly. I have a feeling it will be the beginning of many airshow vacations with my parents in the years to come! Here are some shots from that adventure!

I promise I will try harder to keep ya’ll updated on the adventures of Augustus!

lensbaby photowalk

As of late Sawyer has been getting into this {www.photowalkingutah.com} nerdy geeky dorky awesome site. He was lead to the site by following some Utah photog’s on twitter. This past weekend they had an awesome event. The group leads {Rich Legg & Nicolesy} got pictureline & lensbaby (selective blur lenses) to lend lens’s to some (mostly novice with these lens’s) photog’s for a few hours. This was a pretty awesome experience for me {kate} as the only time I had really played with a lensbaby was last christmas when I bought Sawyer his. Unfortunately the lenses focal length was quite small so we didn’t get really any together. Here are a few shots from the event. (Disclaimer: Most of these are from Sawyer’s camera, as mine are incredibly novice…)

i hate halloween.

i hate halloween.

I hate this holiday I would personally love if we could just skip straight from 30october and hop right on into December. Heck I would even take the week after thanksgiving! (but that is a story for a different day) Where was I. Yes, I hate despise loathe halloween, I ahbor most of what is associated with it, well besides cute little kids, and buying 75 cent bags of candy corn the day after. But that is <partially> besides the point. I remember back in the {good ole} days, getting so excited the week the stores started putting everything out for halloween, I loved picking my costume – which usually ended up being a disney princess or a gymnast/dancer. I always loved it because it gave me a chance to be someone else, someone that my clumsy body may never get the chance to really be. But once I got into junior high, the stigma wore off, as did the gleeful joy of pursuing a years worth of candy in one night.

When we moved to Utah in 2001, there was one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb – and it was bigger then even the states own “independence day” – halloween. Each year, a month prior to the dreadful date, a new halloween “express” or “___ enter obnoxious statement here” would open up approximately .7 miles away from another store. And of course they were always packed. Why? I have never seemed to understand how such a satanic/wordly holiday is so highly celebrated in a place that is so religiously orientated?

It didn’t take long for me to see high schoolers, even college aged “trick-or-treaters” on these dreary nights, and that is when the bitterness set in. I have always seen halloween as a children’s holiday, a day to dream to be something you have not yet become. To be a nurse, a dancer, a transformer, a police officer or fireman, a pumpkin, an elf. Dream it up & be it. But I am sheerly frightened at the sights that I have been seeing, even in the children’s aisles of costumes there are bloody & goorey. How on earth is this geared towards our children?!

Sawyer & I took photos at our churches “trunk-or-treat” to create a safe alternative for kids walking the streets at night & showing them that everything can be done safely. Here are a few photos from this morning, breeze on over to my facebook page or my flickr for more of them! As well, I begrudgley decided to buck it up and dress up for a friends party. I was Princess Leigh & Sawyer was a Jedi Knight, our costumes were kick-a however, I may have stolen the idea from a fellow blogger.
